Hallo,

Zwei Kometen gleichzeitig im Okular wäre also möglich.

Hallo Mike,

POSSIBLE METEOR ACTIVITY FROM COMET P/2016 BA14
Further to CBET 4257, comet P/2016 BA14 will pass within about 0.024 AU
of the earth on Mar. 23, and comet 252P will pass about 0.0357 AU from the
earth on Mar. 21-22. Assuming no unusual brightness variations, each object
may approach total visual magnitude 12 around closest approach. G. V.
Williams notes that the closest approach of comet 252P to Jupiter since
1899 was in 1987 at a distance of 0.26 AU.
Quan-Zhi Ye, Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Western
Ontario, writes that, with the help of a meteoroid trail model, the evolution
of possible meteoroids ejected from P/2016 BA14 since 1750 AD has been
examined, but no trail encounter is found for 2016. However, it is possible
that older meteoroid trails from this object are still capable of producing
meteor activity, so observers should be on alert. Possible meteors would
radiate from geocentric radiant R.A. = 5h.5 (82 deg), Decl. = -39 deg
(equinox J2000.0), with geocentric velocity 14.1 km/s. The most probable
time for meteor activity would be around the late hours of 2016 Mar. 20 UT..

In 2016 the comet 252P LINEAR passes its perihelion, and the distance between its and the Earth orbits will be 0.01248 AT. The results of the comet particles orbital evolution show that 1915, 1921 and 1926 trails pass quite close to the Earth, so on 28-30 March weak meteor activity is possible, with ZHR perhaps no more than 5-10, from a radiant RA=77.7°, Dec=-15.9°. The activity occurance is most probable during 11-18 UT on March 28. The radiant is situated in the sky close to the Mu Leporis star, therefore it is the evening shower. Low radiant declination makes its available mainly for observers in southern hemisphere and on equator...

As the particular 'stream' they come from seems to originate from a similar time to the separation of P/2016 BA14 from the primary comet, I might even say that the separation and the shower are related.
I haven't positively identified the radiant, but I might recommend meteor shower observers to stay up a bit later the next month, because 252P may make quite a performance this March, considering bolides can be seen nearly two months before!

*252P/ LINEAR
2016 Mar 04.43 UT; m1= 10.6; Dia= 7.9’; DC= 1; 25cm L, f:5 (x39) [Chris Wyatt, Walcha, NSW, Australia]
Coma appears large, circular and diffuse. Outer coma transparent, inner coma slightly brighter but very weakly condensed. Coma colour has a slight blue/green tinge to it. Enhances moderately in Swan Band filter. No tail. Altitude = 68.6°, SQM was 21.67 (averaged). Could just barely make it out using 11x70 B’s but bordering on threshold.

Hallo zusammen,

2016 Mar 11.46 UT; m1= 7.0; Dia= 33’; DC= 2; 10x50B [Chris Wyatt, Walcha, NSW, Australia]
Coma very large and diffuse, inner coma weakly condensed and opaque covering over half the coma diameter and pale aqua-blue in colour. No tail

Moin zusammen!

http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?s=b426ad9d909c020900438f13b8ba633b&t=143773

At some point before 1860, 252P/LINEAR separated from a secondary, smaller fragment discovered in January of 2016, designated P/2016 BA14 (PANSTARRS)

P/2016 BA14 (PANSTARRS). The nucleus of the secondary is 60-200 meters large, half that of the primary. 252P/LINEAR will get as close as 0.0356 AU (13.9 LD) to Earth on 21 March 2016 and P/2016 BA14 (PANSTARRS) will get as close as 0.0237 AU (9.2 LD) to Earth on 22 March 2016.

Sky & Telescope - Comet P/2016 BA14 to Make Historic Flyby of Earth

You'd have to go back to 246 years to find a comet that passed closer to Earth than Comet PanSTARRS (P/2016 BA14) will on March 22nd. Predicted to come within about nine lunar distances (34.4 million kilometers) of Earth around 16:00 UT on that day, P/2016 BA14 will soon claim the distinction of second closest comet ever recorded.

Lexell's Comet has them all beat. It missed Earth by 2.2 million kilometers on July 1, 1770. Although discovered in June that year by the comet ferret himself, Charles Messier, it became popularly known as Lexell's Comet after astronomer and mathematician Anders Johan Lexell computed its orbit. As the comet sprinted across the sky in late June and early July, Messier described the coma as more than four times the size of the full Moon and as bright as magnitude +2. Wow!

We'll see plenty of action from P/2016 BA14 as it speeds from Canis Major to Ursa Major in the span of just 7 nights, but you'll need a telescope to spot it. When first discovered on January 21st of this year by the PanSTARRS 1 telescope, it was given an asteroid designation, 2016 BA14. Soon after, Russian astronomer Denis Denisenko noticed that it's orbit was remarkably similar to comet 252P/LINEAR, discovered in 2000 and on course for a similar close approach to Earth this month.

We'll soon know much more about these two unequal popsicle halves. Michael Kelley has secured time on the Hubble Space Telescope for a closer look at 252P. Spectra should help astronomers determine if the comets' compositions are similar enough to prove they're related. Radar observations are planned for BA14 using the Green Bank and NASA's Deep Space Network's DSS-13 dishes to determine the shape and size of its nucleus and other characteristics. Unfortunately, it appears that the 1000-foot (305-meter) Arecibo dish, which might have been used to image 252P, will most likely be down for maintenance during the flybys.

2016 March 22.475UT (11:25UT)
The comet was stellar in appearances, magnitude 12.8, motion was such that you could watch the star like comet move against the Moon light - background sky and field stars.

Aktuelles Bild von Giuseppe Pappa mit 300mm Objektiv:
http://spaceweathergallery.com/indi...d=123806&PHPSESSID=9d40ru811vin2qmkc6754n9me1
