Das EU-finanzierte Konsortium EuroPlanet organisiert zusammen mit der ESA ein Meeting in Graz zur Koordination von Amateurbeobachtungen vom Smart-1 Einschlag auf dem Mond (am 3. Sep) und Venusbeobachtungen die evtl. den Venus Express Wissenschaftlern helfen können. Bitte verteilt die unten stehende Einladung - noch haben wir kaum Feedback!

Dear Colleague,
On behalf of the coordinating board of the "Earth- and Space- based Coordinated Observations"
activity N3 (http://europlanet.oeaw.ac.at), which is a part of the European networking
project EUROPLANET ( European Planetology Network: http://europlanet.cesr.fr), we would
like to invite you to take part in a "Joint EUROPLANET N3 and N4 workshop on amateur
astronomer coordinated observations in support of Venus Express and SMART-1". As a main
topic of this workshop will be discussion and shaping of amateur astronomers coordinated
observational campaign(s) dedicated to VEX and SMART-1, discussion of particular technical
questions and share of obligations.
The proposed time, duration and place of the workshop are:
- June 24-25, 2006,
- 1,5 days
- Space Research Institute of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (IWF-OeAW), Graz , Austria
Travel expenses of the workshop participants may be covered by the EUROPLANET project.
Please respond at your earliest convenience. In the case of traveling with a car the reimbursement
will be made on the basis of 2-nd class train ticket tariff.
This workshop is jointly organized by the EUROPLANET N3 team and ESA scientists
Jason P. Hatton and Detlef Koschny in close cooperation with another EUROPLANET
activity N4: "Public outreach".

steht mittlerweile der 03. September für den Absturz fest? Das letzte was ich dazu las, war, dass es zwischen dem 01. und 02. September passieren sollte.

Ja, 3. Sep morgens um ca. 2 h UTC - allerdings +/- 7 Stunden. Die Ungenauigkeit hat 2 Gründe. Weil die Topografie nahe dem Einschlagort nicht genaugenug bekannt ist weiss man nicht ob es nicht einen Orbit vorher oder nachher zum Impact kommt - pro Orbit sinkt S-1 um 2 km. Die Orbitperiode ist knapp 5 Stunden.

Ausserdem ist das letzte Bahnmanöver noch nicht gemacht, daher weiss man nicht genau wo Smart-1 in seinem Orbit sein wird, daher 7 Stunden und nicht 5 Stunden.

Nach dem Orbitmanöver (im Zeitraum 23 Juni bis 8 Juli) wissen wir die Position im Orbit, d.h. der Impact wird auf eine Minute genau bekannt sein - aber dann eben auch noch mit der Unsicherheit ob ein Orbit eher oder später. D.h. 3 Slots von je ca. 2 Minuten im Abstand von ca. 5 Stunden...
