Hi all, :)
Sorry, but I don't speak German.
I stargaze using a pair of Zeiss 15x60 BGA T* (latest production); I tested many binoculars, but the 15x60 are my preferred.
I'd like to know if you have ever used a Dialyt 8x56 GA T*: how do they perform? Are the stars pin-points?
Thanks!

Hi Fabio,

welcome to the forum :) .

Imo, the Zeiss Dialyt 8x56 is a fine binocular, especially for hunters. But, compared to the newer Victory FLs, it has its shortcomings.
The field of view is small ( Dialyt: 110m/1000m, Victory FL: 130m/1000m ) and the image is rather soft at the edge of the field.

So, if possible, choose one of the Victory FLs ( 8x56 or 10x56 ) instead, they are much better for stargazing and on par with your excellent 15x60 BGAT*.

Best wishes

Manfred

Hi Manfred,
Thanks for your welcome and for your kind reply. :)

I had a pair of Victory 10x56FL, but I sold them. "Are you crazy?" perhaps you are thinking... :D
No, I'm not crazy...I think I'm not...I hope so... :D but I didn't like them for stargazing. I found them the best I have ever tested during daytime, much better than my 15x60 B GAT*, but they showed tiny spikes around stars (a bit of astigmatism, I think). No chromatic aberration, but I didn't like those spikes...; my 15x60 BGA T* are nearly perfect (perfection does not exist...) because they show pin point stars and no CA.
I had also the former models of the Victory 10x56, but none of them could beat the 15x60 B GAT*.
My experience on Zeiss binoculars tell me the ClassiC line is very reliable and this is the reason for which I'm asking a piece of advice on the 8x56 model.
Thanks again,
fabio

Hi Fabio,

the main difference between the Victory FL and your 15x60 BGAT* is the prism system. The latter has Porro prisms, the former roof prisms. I´ve heard that roof binos always show tiny ( or not so tiny, depends on price and quality ) ) spikes around stars, so the 8x86 Dialyt ( has roof prisms as well ) will probably also show this fault.

It would be better for you to choose another fine porro binocular, what about the Nikon 7x50 SP or the Fujinon FMT-SX-2 7x50 or 10x50?

Best wishes

Manfred

Hi Manfred,
I fear you could be right on the Dialyt 8x56... :( because I heard the same thing about roof prisms. I'm a Zeiss supporter so, when I want to buy new binoculars I always check Zeiss catalogues...

I've got the Fujinon 10x50 FMT-SX2 and I think they are premuim quality binoculars.

Have you ever tested the Nikon 7x50 Astroluxe?

Thanks.
Bye,
fabio
