Hello Marc,

when I look at the instruments, I can see that you are using different telescopes as the largest one. How do you choose which one will be used?

Kind regards,

fquadrat

PS
If you should notice strong changes of the brightness of R CrB or SS Cyg, please mark this in your posting.

Hi fquadrat,

Since 1980 when I started observing, I owned between 300 and 400 telescopes.
So I very regularly changed from telescope.
Now I have "only" 2 APM 152 f/8 doublet apos, a C9.25, a CPC925, and 3 small apos (70, 80 and 90 mm triplets).
But who knows what kind of telescope I should own to-morrow ?
Personally I think I will stay for a while with the C9.25 now.
I am always frustrated how little lightpower a refractor gives when sky conditions are not great.

I started with variable star observing in april 1994.

R CrB is now out of my reach (in the evening) but in a month or so, it will be visible in the morning sky coming out of the many trees of the neighbour.
Was not very much in the mood to go after SS Cyg tonight.
It is a CV that I regard as an extra to do star but only during more pleasant (warmer) nights.
Hate very very much to observe during cold nights.

Best regards,
Marc

Hi Marc!
Zitat von BiesmansMarc:
Since 1980 when I started observing, I owned between 300 and 400 telescopes.
Wow!

Private observatory? ;-)

I started with variable star observing in april 1994.
And still not bored? Top!

Hate very very much to observe during cold nights.
Use warmer clothes.

I wish you many clear nights, as the forecasts already mention warmer weather.

Hi fquadrat,

Yes, private observatory in my backyard.
But it is already the 3rd observatory.
First it was built more than 100 km away from my home in a piece of land I got, just to put it there, no ownership of that piece of land. I was a that time living on an appartment so no garden.
Then I bought a house in 1988 and of course I wanted the observatory in my backyard.
Have put it at the end of my garden as that was the best place.
But the trees at the neighbour south of me, kept on growing and I could not observe anything lower than decl. +15 dg.
In 2008 one of my best friends and me broke down the 4 by 4 meter observatory and moved it till a few meters from my house.
At the same time we made it smaller to 3 by 3 meters as originally the observatory was made for my Lichtenknecker 200 mm f/15 Fraunhofer refractor and for the last 10 years or so I only used Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes.
Unfortunately 1 year later I bought a new APM-LZOS 228 mm f/9 apo refractor to discovered that it was too long for my observatory. So I sold it after exactly 1 day I acquired it and bought a new APM-LZOS 203 mm f/7 apo and put that one
on my AP1200 GTO.
Still regret very much that I sold that apo, but I can say the same of my TEC 180 FL f/7 apo. (the TEC 200 f/9 was also too long).

Variable stars, especially LPV's (long period variables) are everything in my life.
There is very simply nothing else in my life but observing variables stars (no wife, no kinds, no job, no other hobby).

Before 1994 when I started with variables, I already observed everything else (deepsky, planets, comets, star-eclipses)
All these things frustrated me.
For deepsky my sky has just way too little contrast (no real dark skybackground), with planets you have almost everytime poor seeing, for comet observing I have way way way too many trees at all my surrounding neighbours (I live more or less in a forest area) and the star-eclipses with the Moon, well did find no fun in doing that.
And astro-photography ? Well, I like to see the REAL universe you know, not some stupid pictures of it.
So I never ever attempted photography of the sky.
I like to do something useful, not trying to get some personal satisfaction or showing off with some pictures to
others.

Best regards,
Marc
