J.C. Becker et al. (DES Collaboration) DISCOVERY AND DYNAMICAL ANALYSIS OF AN EXTREME TRANS-NEPTUNIAN OBJECT WITH A HIGH ORBITAL INCLINATION

We report the discovery and dynamical analysis of 2015 BP519, an extreme Trans-Neptunian Object detected by the Dark Energy Survey at a heliocentric distance of 55 AU and absolute magnitude H_r = 4.3. The current orbit, determined from an 1110-day observational arc, has semi-major axis a ~ 450 AU, eccentricity e ~ 0.92, and inclination i ~ 54 degrees. We discuss the orbital stability and evolution of this object, and find that under the influence of the four known giant planets 2015 BP519 displays rich dynamical behavior, including rapid diffusion in semi-major axis and more constrained variations in eccentricity and inclination. We also consider the long term orbital stability and evolutionary behavior within the context of the Planet Nine hypothesis, and find that 2015 BP519 adds to the circumstantial evidence for the existence of this proposed new member of the solar system.

2015 BP519 provides support for the Planet Nine hypothesis. If the object is formed in the plane of the solar system, as expected, then there is a low probability that its orbit can attain the observed high inclination through dynamical processes involving only the known planets. In contrast, the observed orbital elements of 2015 BP519 are readily produced through dynamical interactions if the solar system also contains Planet Nine.


New evidence for existence of Planet Nine

2015 BP519

2015 BP519, nicknamed Caju, is a detached trans-Neptunian object on a highly eccentric and inclined orbit in the outermost region of the Solar System. It was first observed on 27 November 2014, by astronomers of the Dark Energy Survey using the DECam instrument of the Victor M. Blanco Telescope at Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory in Chile.

Its estimated diameter 400-700km would make it a potential dwarf planet. The object orbits the Sun at a distance of 35.1–824.6 AU once every 8912 years and 1 month (semi-major axis of 430 AU). Its orbit has an exceptionally high eccentricity of 0.92 and an inclination of 54° with respect to the ecliptic. It is one of more than a dozen extreme trans-Neptunian objects with perihelion greater than 30 AU and a semi-major axis greater than 250 AU, indicative for the hypothetical Planet Nine.

Viele dieser TNOs haben Sedna -aehnliche Perihelions. Meiner Ansicht nach ist das kein Zufall; aber nicht nur wegen des Einflusses eines moeglichens grossen, fernen Planetens, sondern / denn:
In der Bode Reihe kommt nach Pluto 384 das doppelte: 768 oder 76,8 AU, und der Sedna Perihelion? ist 76 AU.
Die Verdoppelung der Planetenabstaende hat von Venus nach oben geklappt*
Wieso sollte es mit Pluto aufhoehren?
*Ueber Venus und Neptun in "Bode" sollten wir uns noch ein anderes mal unterhalten.
